Becoming a Member
Our group is not a limited company nor any other form of Charity or formal body. We are just a group of people with a common interest in the operation of our loco E6003 - Sir Herbert Walker.
New part owners are always welcome and for simplicity we talk about our members owning a 'share' in the loco which represents a contribution to the group's funds of £100 or more. As we said at the start, we are not a company we only use the word 'share' to describe a donation of £100 or more to the group - the group's constitution sets out the details of how the group operates as well as the full terms governing the shares members acquire.
You can either send a cheque for £100 or set up a standing order for £10 per month to build up your contribution until you have acquired your first 'share'. There is no limit to the number of shares that you can build up and many long standing members simply let their standing orders run in support of our loco. You will be issued with a certificate from time to time recognising your contribution and by being a member you can have a voice in any major decision on the future of the loco.
What do you get for your money?
We do circulate an occasional newsletter detailing the highs and occasional lows of running a loco that is now in its 52nd year but the main benefit of becoming a part owner is the assurance of a warm welcome at the S&C when you visit to see your loco in operation. Subject to space and safety constraints members are always welcome to ride in the cab of their loco and get their hands dirty maintaining their loco - but please note that you need to be a member of the Swindon & Cricklade Railway before carrying out any maintenance work on E6003.
